During the weekend, I went to see the new film called 9. The story was basically about machines taking over the world and a few puppets, (I guess you could call them) are trying to destroy them. After the movie, I began thinking and soon asked myself, what if technology gets out of hand? I mean think about, more wars, more destruction, just country fighting country with machines(and that's the scary part)! Machines and technology are more capable of destruction more than people. Here's an example about how scary our world can be in just a few years:
A couple months ago, I was watching the history channel and it had to do with the subject of magic and how to trick the naked eye. One part talked about how in 2007, the British army was conducting a camouflage experiment with their tanks. Witnesses said that the tanks literally disappeared from sight! Now imagine that, whole armies marching through cities easily and undetected. This type of technology could possibly be the reason how WW-III is going to occur. It is not only scary, but think about the invasion of privacy!(ha) We soon need to ask ourselves and say just because we can create something, does it mean we should?
I don't think that we should create potentially dangerous things just because we can. There are so many movies about technology taking over the world and they are becoming more and more realistic. I think that before potentially dangerous technology is used, we should step back and try to predict what harm this technology could do.

I think you are right, that because we can does not mean we should. I think if we are going to try to invent anything, we should be trying to invent machines that are helpful or for protection, rather than destruction.

Personally i disagree with the backing for this argument because the thought of artificial intelligence reaching a point of an independent sentient machine is just a product of science fiction. And the thought of having unmanned machines of war, for example the Predator that the Navy is so proud about, is for the safety of American troops so that if it's shot down we only lose a robot instead of a machine and a life.

There have been many flims that have dealt with the idea that technology will become too dangerous for our own good. I do not believe that we will make machines that will independently rise against us and take over the world. However, I do believe in the idea that we will continue to make powerful war machines that we will use against each other. I think the machines that we as citizens see as harbringers of death and destruction are justified by the military as necessary for our protection, and they think that that entitles them to continue making more dangerous machines.

I agree and disagree. I think that we should not make too many dangerous machines and weapons just because we can because money can be put to better use in some situations. However, what if we are attacked? What if the United States is in danger? We might be unprepared if we do not have these weapons to protect us. Yes, they are dangerous and cost a lot of money but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Wow, I want to thank all of you who commented on my post, I didn't think anyone would. It is so great to read your comments and to see the way people think. However, in no way shape or form is this post my cultural analysis. It was an additional post I put up for EC. Thank you all for commenting on it, it was great to hear your personal views.
