Music Video Girls: Exploitive or an Industry of Independence
In the fbomb.com post, a blogger depicts a documentary, “Music, Money and Hip-Hop Honeys”, discussing the job of a music video girl. Discussing the meaning behind the video girls actions as exploitive or independence. My take on this article is the women who decide to how their body to people around the world is their decision, when a woman gets to the point that she feels she is being exploited by the men they are taking off their clothes for and dancing next to she has the right to refuse being looked at as “exploited”.
"What happened to the dreams of a girl president? / She's dancing in the video next to 50 cent", was posted underneath a picture of 50 cent in his video girl half-naked dancing next to him. After researching women today being brought down my our society women probably don’t have the desire to be a president, not only do they have to fight for high positions in America, they have to gain respect, prove that they are as strong as the men, and have to deal with the scrutiny of the media and society. Such as Hillary Clinton having gone further than other woman in a presidential race she was still scrutinized by the media and society.
Another component to this blog is women using music videos as a industry of independence. Women are getting paid thousands of dollars for showing off their body; every woman doesn’t have the ambition of going to college so yes there is alternative to making money. As long as they are respecting themselves I have no problem with it. What do you say to models that pose naked and I’m not talking about for PETA, models and music videos girls almost have the same job.
No.
Models in mainstream modeling get paid thousands. Urban/Hip Hop Models don't get paid. Read Buffie Carruth's Book she did a 7 page spread for King as her first print gig and was told she wouldn't be getting paid since 'she sent her photos to them' and that everyone told her not to fight it. That was like, 2007. She was the biggest thing going when Lil' Wayne offered her $795 to be in his video in 2008. $795, WTM...? These women find out AFTER, as she did, That There Is No Money for YOU. Only for Magazine and Record Label Artists and Staff. Models are not considered ANY of these. She's the only one on the set not considered an employee of ANY type which doesn't happen in Mainstream Modeling. Mainstream Models make Thousands. Google it.
