I kind of disagree with you completly. I think the exact opposite. Pearl is not a demon child at all, infact she's only three and everybody in the novel over alalyzes her actions to be devilish. 3 year olds do things like play with objects like she plays with the "A". I do appriciate your own interpretaion of pearl though.

I think that society is confused by Hester's reluctance to give up the name of Pearl's father. People are always afraid of what they cannot understand. Therefore, I think they are using the devil as a means of explaning Pearl's behavior so that they do not have to be afraid of her.
