British were guilty of showing the colonist too much order. Liberty is what the patriots wanted. According to Patrick Henry during the town meeting,Give me liberty or give me death (Patrick 53). The colonist had every right to want to separate themselves from an orderly parent. The colonist felt that separation was the right thing to do, according to Thomas Paine in Common Sense, Every thing that is right or natural pleads for separation.(Pain 56). The British felt like they could treat the patriots any kind of way because of the fact that they helped them in the war.
The British and the patriots both made sacrifices during the war. The British spent a lot of money on food and guns, etc, but the patriots spent their money also. The British feelings lead them to more mistreatment of the colonist. Such as trading, the colonist could only trade to the French, according to the SHOULD THE COLONIST REBEL ARTICLE? Sine they could only sell to one customer, if they produced a surplus of a product, they would have trouble disposing of it. The only thing that the colonist was happy about was that British officials didnt seriously enforce the rules of trading. So there was a lot of smuggling by the colonist. A lot of these problems and concerns led to the Declaration of Independence being produced in 1776. The problem with the document was that American colonist werent justified in the document. The justification didnt come into later in history where eventually the American colonists were taken seriously.
The British were like protective parents to the loyalist at first. Then the British started trying to make the colonist pay back all of the help that they received. The British taxed the loyalist, mistreating them, gave them the minimum number of suppliers and traders (but the colonists were smart and smuggled). This debate and fight between the British and the loyalist is a mark in history and this just shows the people of new generations that, as human beings you should never give someone something and take something from them thinking that your being paid back.
Good paper, I agree with your point of view about the Loyalists
