When asked for their reaction to the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election, anybody could say that they felt it was historic, that it broke barriers, that it was a long time coming, and that it was the greatest or most important election in our history. Fine. But what struck me the most about President-elect Barack Obama was that he is the only person not extolling the virtues of "the first black president." He is historic not only because he is African-American, but because he does not take his 'race' into account when describing himself. He is a man and an American, and as soon as everybody follows his example then racism will truly end. Kudos to Barack Obama.
On a side note, John McCain's speech after the election was truly honorable. He lost with grace, and he deserves the respect of every American for the things he said (and the fact that he did not let Sarah Palin speak.)
