Here is my little rant. After seeing the play, "The Bluest Eye," I had a revelation. I said to myself "Self, everyone is a little bit racist." Anyone who claims that they aren't is a liar. What I am about to say next may be construed as controvesial, narrow-minded, or biggotry. Even after growing up in Oak Park, I even acknowledge that I have a tad bit racist.
We have to remember that racism doesn't just have to be from one race to another. It can be with in a single race. When I hear an African-American kid in the hallways call another African-American kids a "nigger," I (along with many other people that have shared similar feelings with me) want to go up to that same kid and see what their reaction is if we say "nigger."
I guess what I am trying to get at is the fact that nobody is perfect. We live in a world that is not equal. I hate to say it, but it is the truth. I personally think that Oak Park sets people up for a big slap in the face. The real world is not accepting towards all people.
