While it's hard to pick just one book that I absolutely love, I have to say 2001: A Space Odysseyis one of the best books I've read. The plot is centered around a space theme, and kind of keeps you guessing the whole time. When I read this book in 8th grade, I didn't get where it was going, especially when the book began with a monolith and a man-like person named Moon Watcher. As the plot thickened, I couldn't put the book down. The spaceship with the "computer" HAL made the book particularly interesting. HAL is more than a computer, though, because it seems to have it's own mind and out-smarts the people on the spaceship. I won't ruin the rest of the novel, but the ending is surprising. This book made me want keep reading and captured my attention enough that I looked forward to discussing the book in class. While I probably would not have picked this book on my own, I'm glad I read it. Another suggestion for a good book is Alas Babylon.
I loved 2001: A Space Odyssey also. I loved how the book and movie were basically the same thing as the author and director worked on both at the same time. Reading the book after watching the movie helped me understand the extremely confusing scenes of the movie a lot.

I also really enjoyed 2001: A Space Odyssey. The odds were against it, as it was a rather long and slow book, however, I rarely find myself that into a story. Ms. Jarzab definitely picked the best books to read out of any teacher I've ever had.
