Holes by Louis Sachar was the first novel I ever read from front cover to back cover. It was an amazing book. I couldn't put it down for a second. Yes, I was in third or fourth grade but I hated reading and I was amazed by how I couldn't stop reading this novel. It was such a good book. The whole story was well written and set up nicely. It turns out there is a lot of connections between characters that you don't find out until the end of the book. When the end comes around it all made perfect sense and all I could say was wow. It still is my favorite book and probably always will be. I even like the movie they made from it.
Wow, you know it's a good book when its made into a movie and doesn't completely suck. What the author made you do, which was read the book cover to cover, really shows you that action and adventure aren't always the most important thing in books. Connections between characters seems to be a good way to go for both authors and movie producers/directors. The easiest example I can think of is "Crash." Although the stories all seem completely unrelated, the director really ties the characters together well.

I have no shame in admitting that I also enjoyed Holes..heck, I still like it!
Also, I agree that the movie was pretty good. Usually books that are made into movies aren't too good.

I must say I have never read the actual book itself, though I have seen the movie and loved it. Though I would like to eventually read the book, I think I maybe a litte old to actually do it but Im not saying I wont.

I read the book multiple times, and enjoyed the plot immensely. And the movie actually wasn't half bad, which says something, in my opinion, on the caliber of the plotline itself.

This was definately a great book. I think I read this in 7th grade and loved it so that shows that this must've been an amazing book

This book was great. It had everything that you would want in a children's book. But what I think made it so good was the fact that the most appealing thing, even to younger readers, wasn't the polt devices or action or adventure but the substance in all of the characters. It created a small magical world.
