There are countless books that have touched me: by changing my perspective, opening my eyes to something new, or simply striking a chord in my heart. However, perhaps one of the the most influential books in my life was Hop on Pop by Dr. Suess. Yes, it is a picture book. Yes, it is probably for children under the age of 10. But, it was also the first full book I read on my own. This, at the time, was an incredible accomplishment. Turning to the last page, I had truly done it! And the excitement of that moment turned me on to reading for the rest of my life.
Without a doubt I think at least one of Dr. Suess's books has influenced a person in one way or another. They are terrific books that are great for introducing kids to literature.

Oh my gosh, I love Dr. Seuss's books. Whenever I babysit I make the kids hear a Seuss book. I recently (yesterday) found The Foot Book, by Dr. Seuss. Now I can't stop saying really random things like, "Rose foot, daisy foot, hairy foot, lazy foot."

I totally agree. I just wrote my blog on "Oh, The places you'll go." I love Dr. Seuss and for a children's book author, he was pretty awesome.

This book was especially meaningful for me because of my family name, "Bopp". There were many jokes, I must say. I also really really liked Star-Bellied Sneeches as entities, and always wanted to go through that machine. Still.

Yes Dr. Seuss was amazing. My personal favorite was Green Eggs and Ham and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

I totally agree, I really loved Dr. Suess as a kid. My favorite book by him would be fox in sox. I thought it was really interesting how he ryhmed non sense words and yet it is entertaining.

I like the way you interpreted the idea of influential and life-changing in applying it to the first book you ever read by yourself in its entirety. (It makes me wonder what book it was for me.)
Interestingly, when former President George W. Bush's daughters Barbara and Jenna were very young, he would read "Hop on Pop" to them, and he would actually let them "Hop on Pop".
