For our final project my group chose the genre of slapstick comedy. As we are picking what movies/shows we would present as examples to the class, I was assigned the Three Stooges. Going into to this I disliked the show but thought maybe I would learn to understand why everyone thinks it is so funny. Well by the third episode I was not having it. I don't understand what is funny about it. I personally think that the three men are annoying and have seen better slapstick comedy, that I would actually consider comedy, in the past and present. So I guess my question is, does anyone else think that the Three Stooges is just not funny? or can anyone try and help me understand why so many people find it hilarious?
I can't say I remember actually having seen anything of Three Stooges, but I think I relate to how you're feeling. Sometimes I watch comedies that incorporate a lot of slapstick and it is simply not funny. A lot of the time I'm left feeling grossed out or cringing with sympathy pains. When I am entertained by slapstick comedy it is usually because it is subtly portrayed or shown in small amounts. The Three Stooges are anything but subtle or having a small amount of slapstick element. Like you, I do not know why many people like them or that type of comedy.
