After watching the clip from Apocalypse Now I am craving more of the movie. I am very upset with the fact that we never were able to see how Kurtz was actually portrayed in the movie. Yes, one could assume that the character was the same of that of the book, yet there were some differences between the book and the movie. There was a person who praised Kurtz in both depictions, but one was a Russian, and the other an American hippie type photographer. In both the book and movie the helmsman is killed via a spear, yet the helmsman in the movie had a greatly expanded role compared to that of the helmsman in the book. Looking at these differences makes me wonder what Kurtz might have been like in the movie. I might even go rent the movie just to find out. Do you think Kurtz would be portrayed the same in the movie as he was in the book?
I think that the Kurtz in Apocalypse Now will be significantly different, yet strangely similar to the Kurtz in HOD. Because Apocalypse Now is set in a different time period, Kurtz will have a different use for his slaves. Because of the differences in the characters that Paul just mentioned, I believe that Kurtz will be completly different, yet play the same role.

I was also very intrigued by the movie . Seeing scenes from HOD being acted out in a Vietnam setting helped make many of the themes more clear . Seeing as Kurtz is more of a symbol than a character I imagine the movie's Kurtz would be similar to the book's Kurtz.

I would have to agree. after watching the movie i feel it helped clerify more of Heart of Darkness. The book was very confusing and if we were to watch more of the movie we could better understand what the book was trying to get acrosss.
