In my Chinese class, I did a current events report on Foxconn City and factories like it. There have been reports of coerced, often unpaid labor of underaged children and young adults who are told that "working experience" will help them get a better jobs later on. Yeah right. The fact that Apple has been auditing since 2007 and no significant steps have been taken to prevent employee abuse really make me doubt the purpose or effectiveness of the FLA inspections. The deaths and injuries that occur only go to show that no action is beign taken to fix conditions for factory workers. Not so much that Apple created these factories and is directly responsible for their conditions, but their lack of oversight is appauling. Audit my ass. They need to go clean up their messes.
The fact that people want to bring jobs back over here is of no object in this debate. Bringing jobs back to the U.S. would be wonderful, but at the same time, human rights are human rights no matter where you go.
